Much has been rumoured about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare\u2019s post-launch content and monetisation systems and now Activision and Infinity Ward have finally addressed these concerns.<\/p>\n
As we knew since its announcement, COD: Modern Warfare won\u2019t have any Season Pass or multiplayer Map Packs. All post-launch maps and modes will be free for all players on all platforms, and all of these maps and modes will launch simultaneously across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Sony has scooped up a year-long exclusive for the co-op Spec Ops Survival mode but that\u2019s it as far as exclusivity goes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
But, Activision isn\u2019t a publisher which believes in charity. The money to fund that post-launch content needs to come from somewhere (despite the base game costing up to \u00a385), which brings us to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare\u2019s in-game purchases and all those other gubbins.<\/p>\n

<\/ins><\/p>\nFirst and foremost, there won\u2019t<\/strong> be loot boxes or randomised loot crates in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Now, Activision did say this about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4\u00a0but added loot crates in six months later, so we\u2019ll withhold judgement on this for now.<\/p>\nInstead of loot crates, COD: Modern Warfare will use the popular Battle Pass system. Battle Passes will arrive after launch with timed post-launch live seasons.Players can work through the levels of the Battle Pass to earn new cosmetic items and COD Points (premium currency). New base weapons and attachments are unlocked through normal gameplay and are not part of\u00a0 Call of Duty: modern Warfare\u2019s Battle Pass.<\/p>\n
The Battle Pass will be available in two flavours – Free Stream and Premium Stream. At any point, a player can spend an undetermined number of COD Points to upgrade to the Premium Battle Pass and unlock the content. You\u2019ll need to buy a new Battle Pass for each season but, if you level it up enough, you should earn enough COD Points to buy the next one. Anyone who\u2019s played the likes of Fortnite will be familiar with the systems here (albeit COD: MW certainly isn\u2019t F2P).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Interestingly, the Battle Pass won\u2019t be implemented on day one. Activision wants those glowing reviews first. Or, as they put it themselves, \u201cThe Battle Pass System for Modern Warfare will not launch when the game releases on October 25th. Here\u2019s why: First and foremost, we are all focused on making the Day One experience awesome.\u201d <\/em>It, er, sounds as if Activision believes the Battle Pass will make the Day One experience less awesome. Straight from the horse\u2019s mouth there. Anyway, the Battle Pass system will instead launch later in the year.\u00a0<\/p>\nAnd that\u2019s basically it for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare\u2019s monetisation plans. It\u2019s a Battle Pass rather than map packs and loot crates. The player base will no longer be segregated into the haves and have-nots, but is yet another Battle Pass to add to a growing list of Battle Passes that do a heck of a good job at making games feel more like work than fun.<\/p>\n
