The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB may be the world\u2019s worst kept secret but it\u2019s still officially a secret all the same. Now, Nvidia has allegedly officially informed certain members of the press that the GeForce GTX 1660 Super is the real deal and it will be launching in exactly one week\u2019s time.<\/p>\n

Nvidia\u2019s GeForce GTX 1660 Super is pencilled in to launch on October 29th and will slot in right between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB. It bears much more similarity to the former rather than the latter though, lining up with almost identical specs bar the faster GDDR6 video memory.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

We\u2019re looking at the exact same cut down TU116-300 GPU, complete with 1408 CUDA Cores, a base clock speed of 1530 MHz and a boost clock of 1785 MHz. The GeForce GTX 1660 Super sets itself apart from the vanilla GTX 1660 thanks to its 6GB GDDR6 memory. This allows for a faster memory speed of 14Gb\/s, increasing the memory bandwidth from 192GB\/s up to 336GB\/s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Price-wise, the GeForce GTX 1660 Super is expected to begin at $229 from launch next week, around $10 more expensive than a GeForce GTX 1660. Considering the similarity in price, it\u2019s possible the GTX 1660 Super may be replacing an outgoing GTX 1660.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s not a whole lot in it then, the GeForce GTX 1660 Super can essentially be viewed as a \u2018Super\u2019 refresh of the GTX 1660. The greater memory bandwidth should help with higher-resolution textures or displays, although the real-world benefits may be fairly minimal.<\/p>\n

Overall, it\u2019s not the most exciting addition to the Nvidia GeForce 16 series line-up, smacking of an over-reaction to AMD imminent Radeon RX 5500 series more than anything. Still, we\u2019ll be eager to see next week whether the use of GDR6 memory helps the GeForce GTX 1660 Super stand apart.<\/p>\n
