It\u2019s not exactly a well kept secret that Epic Games is struggling to meet the very content roadmap which Epic themselves publicised for the Epic Games Store. The roadmap has included wishlists, baskets, mod support, pre-loading, social features, and more, none of which have actually been achieved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

All of this was laid out on a handy Trello board advising Epic Store users on when they could expect the updates. Epic Games has now announced it\u2019s removing all mentions to \u2018time of delivery\u2019 from its content roadmap, lumping all upcoming features into \u2018Up Next\u2019 or \u2018Future Development\u2019 categories. This obviously means Epic will no longer be beholden to the promises on its own roadmap.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Trello roadmap is not fulfilling the goal we set when it was introduced,\u201d<\/em> explains Epic Games. \u201cThe goal with the Trello roadmap is to provide visibility into the development cycle for the store\u2019s more player-centric feature set.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it\u2019s accomplished that to some degree,\u00a0 we\u2019ve missed the mark accurately displaying the timelines for feature delivery. We regularly delay feature releases due to shifting priorities and the need for further iteration. We\u2019re always focusing on improving, and we believe the Trello can be improved as well.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a double-edged sword for Epic Games. They\u2019re dodging the endless stories of missed dates and delayed development but they\u2019re also opening themselves up to further criticism and questioning over where the heck these basic store features even are.<\/p>\n

When it launched nine months ago, we did cut Epic a bit of slack. They\u2019ve had almost a year to get their act together though, and they\u2019re certainly not an outfit which is short of money. Needless to say, in the intervening months the Epic Games Store library has ballooned to, perhaps, a few hundred games. It\u2019s not a store built for a large catalogue in any way whatsoever. It sure looks nice but the vast majority of games are now absolutely buried. We\u2019d imagine that\u2019s taking priority over other features for now, although your guess is as good as ours as to when it all finally happens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
